9th grade The Ballet curriculum is designed to help dancers create a strong pedagogical foundation through repetitive movement, use of ballet vocabulary, discussion, and exploration. With focus on creativity, discipline and technical development, dancers work in a nurturing, pre-professional atmosphere to build confidence and life/dance skills. Through this course Dance Majors acquire the ability to adapt and grow in any environment. Ballet II Prerequisite: Ballet I The Ballet curriculum is designed to help dancers create a strong pedagogical foundation through repetitive movement, use of ballet vocabulary, discussion, and exploration. With focus on creativity, discipline and technical development, dancers work in a nurturing, pre-professional atmosphere to build confidence and life/dance skills. Through this course Dance Majors acquire the ability to adapt and grow in any environment. Emphasis is placed on implementation and a disciplined work ethic. Level IV builds on previous skills in both mastery and complexity. Ballet V Prerequisite: Ballet I, II, III or faculty placement The Ballet curriculum is designed to help dancers create a strong pedagogical foundation through repetitive movement, use of ballet vocabulary, discussion, and exploration. With focus on creativity, discipline and technical development, dancers work in a nurturing, pre-professional atmosphere to build confidence and life/dance skills. Through this course Dance Majors acquire the ability to adapt and grow in any environment. All male dance majors are required to take this level ballet course. The curriculum for the Men's Class is designed to focus on specific information for the male dancer: virtuoso technique, jumps, turns, and building the strength necessary to properly execute vocabulary of today. Strengthening exercises are given and repetition is required. |
ModernModern I
9th grade The Modern Dance curriculum is designed to give dancers experiences in the fundamentals and expression of modern dance technique. This course focuses on fundamentals of Modern dance techniques with additional studied in anatomy, choreographic techniques, and performance components. Use of weight, space, music and dynamics are addressed in an exploratory and disciplined environment. Creativity and discussion are encouraged in a focused and challenging atmosphere. Modern II Prerequisite: Modern I The Modern Dance curriculum is designed to give dancers experiences in the fundamentals and expression of modern dance technique. Additionally, this course provides instruction in, and connections to, aesthetics, dance history, anatomy, choreographic techniques, and performance components. Use of weight, space, music and dynamics are addressed in an exploratory and disciplined environment. Creativity and discussion are encouraged in a focused and challenging atmosphere. ElectivesDance Composition 12th grade The purpose of this course is to provide to introduce students to the craft of dance composition, the aesthetic principles of form while continuing to refine performance skills. The content will include solo and group collaborative projects. Dance I non-majors(not currently offered) This course provides a dance overview for students from other arts areas. Students become acquainted with basic technique in ballet, modern, and jazz, as well as anatomical awareness that is pervasive throughout their lives. Gaining movement skills and finding confidence and enjoyment through movement are a focus of this class. No previous dance experience is necessary. Dance II(Rotating Curriculum offered every other year) Classical Partnering Faculty approval The Classical Partnering curriculum is designed to help dancers learn the art and skill of partnering in the classical and contemporary ballet vernacular. Use of the hands for men, finding core support, balance and use of weight for coordinated movement quality are addressed. Students acquire partnering technique with the ability to work cohesively for maximum artistic and technical results. Contemporary Partnering Faculty approval The Contemporary Partnering curriculum is designed to help dancers learn the art and skill of partnering in the modern/contemporary dance vernacular. Use of contact improvisation, weight sharing, finding core support, and balance for coordinated movement quality are addressed. Students acquire partnering technique with the ability to work cohesively for maximum artistic and technical results. Dance III (Dance Tech/Production) Faculty Approval only This course provides a dance overview for students who are interested in learning the technical production aspect of dance as an art form. Educational foundations include Audio/ Video/Photo editing and creation, Lighting and Sound Production/Design, and mass marketing of the Senior Dance composition classes performance series. DANCE IV/Company Prerequisite: Ballet lll/Modern ll Pointe work is a Necessity for this course Company class combines students from the Junior and Senior Class into a Performance Ensemble. Students will be responsible for learning, maintaining and performing faculty choreography that may be featured in various SAA events as well as the commubnity at large. Students should be prepared to manage a large amount of Rep. |
