The Savannah Arts Academy Dance Department was first established in the year 2000, with a handful of dancers and one instructor. In the last sixteen years, the department has continued to thrive and flourish. With two full time, and one part time faculty members, students receive instruction in three techniques(Classical Ballet, Contemporary, Musical Theater as well as supplemental classes in Classical or Contemporary Partnering, Dance Composition, and Company Performance Ensemble . We currently have alumni pursuing dance at the following colleges: Kennesaw State University, University of Alabama, University of South Carolina, Point Park, Marymount Manhattan, Pace University, and NYU. Today, we present two full scale mainstage productions per year, accompanied by our New Voices Young Choreographer's Concert and Dance Showcase(presented to the entire student body). In addition, we also present works to the community at large, visiting assisted living facilities, younger educational audiences, various arts organizations about town, and the Girl Scouts of America organization.
We have had the honor of several Guest Artists and Master Classes including, Bill T. Jones Company, Joffrey Concert Group, Eisenhower Dance, Atlantic City Ballet, Cleo Parker Robinson, Ballethnic, Gerri Houlihan, Alex Ketley, Lonnie Davis, Caitlin Dutton, and the Lulu Washington Dance Company.
